Dissatisfied with life in Rakdan—a city located within the astral realm—Jessie Kane joins her people’s army so that she may experience life on Earth as a “human.”

But it isn’t long before Jessie realizes that joining the Baphomian army was a big mistake. She soon tires of the chaos, the overbearing leaders, and the daily duties of violently instigating innocent peoples to war against each other. So when her military company comes under a fatal attack by the Lamashtu, an age-old enemy, she takes the opportunity to run away from it all.

Jessie and her best friend, Hunter Kane, the only two survivors, flee from the attack by jumping on a train that is headed for West Hollywood, California. Unfortunately, life on Earth has taken a great toll on their relationship—enough to cause a heated fight that almost ends in death. Fearful that she’ll end up seriously harming Hunter, Jessie runs away from him once they reach West Hollywood. She meets a depressed teenager named Scott Dillon, and the two quickly become friends. But as time goes by, Jessie realizes how hard it is to disguise her true identity without creating a big web of lies and deceit, especially when they start falling in love with each other. At the same time, she must watch her back for members of the Baphomian and Lamashtu armies, who will soon battle against each other for ultimate sovereignty over both the astral and earthly realms.
